I’m John and I’m freelance camera operator based in Edinburgh Scotland. I have been working freelance since 2014 and in that time I have gained a broad range of experience working across many different genre’s. I have a good understanding of digital formats. I am equally happy working as a part of a large production or working with a small nimble team.

I specialise in filming high-end branded content, commercials and documentary work. Further to having a wealth of experience operating camera’s I also specialise in Aerial Cinematography.

I currently shoot with the Sony FX6 and A7S3 as well as the Mavic 3 Cine and Inspire 2 drone platforms.

Cracking few days up north shooting for @nationaltrustforscotland up at Corrieshalloch Gorge. We shot a load of drone/FPV and stills of the falls. Cheers @hamlet_mountaineering for getting us in there!!
Blew my mind realising 450,000 barrels of oil are pumped daily under this point from the Forties oil field in the North sea to the Ineos refinery in Grangemouth 🤯
Very cool to see @orbitalmarine O2 secured in its place up in Orkney. Despite looking like it's moving, it's actually stationery with the tide ripping past which will shortly be turned into power!! Cheers @devasmith
